The Question that you might ask yourself when comparing Lumber Prices is why is there such a differences in the cost from one retailer to the next. the answers to this question is in quality and quantity, some retailers buy large quantities of lumber at a lower price and store it for long times, this lets them have a lower price on a inferior product that has already begun to dry out and lose its quality, The other Reason is Lumber Grades most other retail purchase a #2 grade that is treated to above ground use only. My Deck is above Ground Right? Actually most decks are not if there is not airspace for the lumber to totally dry bettween wet cycles then this would fall in to the need for ground contact or constant moisture ratings, most lumber used on decks and docks does not meet the criteria for above ground treatment and the use of it will lower the lifespan of the lumber leading to replacement needed sooner. and possible voiding the manufactures warranty on the treatment
